Eighth Crash [Action/Voice]

{In today's episode Ginji can be found refilling a metal dish suspended from a tree with seed and peanuts. If you guessed "bird feeder", give yourself ten points! After making sure the feeder's still attached securely to its branch, Ginji will make himself comfortable on the lawn and pull out his journal. He'll sit there for a while, enjoying the fresh air and the milder weather, before starting a new entry.]

Hey everyone. So...what's it like for you back home? Do you come from a large family or a small one? Have you set out on your own or still live with your parents? Got any siblings? Kids?

I'd like to know.

[After the voice post is finished, he'll spend the next few hours watching any animals that might wander over to the feeder and run through a few sketches of different wing shapes.]

Lots of different kinds! Unis, puniballs, gravistones, dragon tusks, magic grass ... Anything I can use for my alchemy!

More so than I would have ever expected. And still they've grown up well despite their differences.

Yes, for my early childhood it was only us three, and Grandfather did all he could to care for us. But the time came when Van joined the Oracle Knights, and I did not see him as often.

Ah, yeah. My parents work overseas, and figured it would be best to pay for everything I needed but keep me in Momokuri instead of trying to shuttle me around too. It's not bad, my friend's parents take good care of me too if I need it.

I do, actually! Some friends from home are here, and there's other folks I've met since. My little sister arrived with me, but she left a while back.

Mmhmm! With fonons and fon machines and a big ring that goes around the planet called the "fon belt". [And some other stuff he probably should keep his mouth shut about. Except that Ginji sucks at lying and he's naturally inclined to feed curious minds because he was pretty much the same way when he was a little kid.]

You have? I've never actually seen Noir and the others perform on stage. What was it like?

Are fon machines different from normal machines? I didn't hear much about the fon belt! So your planet has a ring? Mine doesn't! But mine also does not have fonons or things, y'know?

Oh! It was really interesting! Lots of people come to Republic City - that's where I live, well we live on Air Temple Island which is more or less a part of it 'cept we're sort of our own thing - because it's a port city, so there's all sorts of stuff going on there. But once, maybe a year or two ago, a circus was in town and daddy and mommy took us! It was really really exciting! There were animals I hadn't seen before, and the benders who were in the show did a lot of tricks - they had mostly firebenders, but there were some earthbenders and a waterbender, too! - and I think my favourite part was the people who swung on the bars waaaaaaaay up high, although they weren't airbenders!

So you use alchemy to make things? A friend of mine was telling me about it once, but I'm not too familiar with the process.

[Boys. He actually doesn't find this very hard to believe, considering the rambunctious Sheridan men he's grown up with.] You mean they're dissimilar or don't they get along?

[Pfft. 'Sir'.] Ah. No, ma'am, not anymore. My sister was here for a while - we actually arrived together - but now it's just me.

[Well, they were in danger. That's part of the reason his job felt so important. Still, if something like that had happened while he was away, he's not sure he could've lived with himself.] Something like that, I guess.

At least they're as safe as they can be right now.

That sounds like a talk my cousin's mom should have with him.

Is it a nice school?

Grandfather used to go on about his days at the Kimlasca-Lanvaldear Royal Academy, but the school in my hometown is pretty small. I only just finished up there a couple years ago. Can't really see myself getting into a fancy academy.

[To say that Asch has been a depressing housemate to be around during the past two weeks is probably a severe understatement, and today is only marginally better. Still, at least he's going outside today, which is something he doesn't always do.

[Ginji glances up from securing a container lid to see the more sullen of his two charges. Asch has been acting off lately, moreso than usual, and it's a bit of a surprise to see him out in the fresh air.]

[There are a few birds twittering away in the general direction of the feeder. Ginji's voice comes from somewhere over to the right.]

[Because now that he has company, of course Ginji's going to talk.] Morning, Mr. Asch. It's a nice day to be outside, huh? I guess you found the tea on the stove already.

It's...an okay school. Girls only. I've been going there since I was ten.

But you said...Royal academy? That does sound like, totally super prestigious...! I bet it's like, way hard for anybody to get into, huh?
