I've been wondering about this for a while now, but what else does everyone normally do in the wintertime? Besides going sledding, shoveling snow, and finding new ways to keep warm, I mean.
[A new life for Ginji. Is it that obvious that the winter's starting to wear on him? Must be. Ginji doesn't take offense, though. Nephry's used to the cold and is bound to have at least a few ideas.]
Oh, working isn't a problem. I help out at the smithy. [And the heat from the forge keeps the place comfortable.]
[A: Bring lots of water and face away from the wind.]
[There's a light laugh.] I kind of figured about the cold part. So across a pond or lake...
Does the water really freeze through far enough to support that much weight? [They don't get that kind of ice in the desert and it's hard to tell how thick it is in Keterburg from the sky. Besides, everything was white up north.]
Of course. Many people can skate at once, as long as the ice is thick enough. ...In Luceti, you may even be able to do it in the summer, if you use the battledome.
It's pretty much like this year round back home. So generally I just sort of do everything in the 'winter'. Well. Besides going swimming. That's generally not a good activity.
You too, Sokka? I have a friend who lives up north on my world, in a city where there's always snow on the ground. But it never snows or stays cold for a long time in my hometown.
[An adventure, this winter.]
So, anything except swimming. Was it hard for you to adjust to warmer weather? [Here's hoping it gets warmer.]
Normally? We go swimming. [Ah, the perks of being from an island.] Normally here though? I've been ice skating a few times, but there's been a lot of baking in our house...I don't know if that helps any.
Well, both I guess. I've seen snow before, but normally I live in the desert. Winter there is completely different than it is here or in most other parts of the world.
[voice]
Generally I worked. [It's a kinder sort of teasing, at least?] If you're looking for something entertaining, there's also ice skating.
[voice]

But what's ice skating?
[voice]
When still water freezes in a thick enough layer, it's possible to skate across it. ...It does get a bit cold, at times.
[But she taught Anise in a previous winter and it wasn't so bad.]

Well, not really. I mean, you wear less layers. Though never underestimate how much extra layers help if you start wrestling.

I'll be sure to keep that in mind if I ever decide I'm cut out for fighting.
We normally wear lots of layers at home despite the heat. Things could get pretty dangerous sometimes - even moreso without the extra protection.

So flower viewing must be something you take part in during the spring, right?

Oh, I'm sorry. I just thought I'd ask...

Well, I didn't mean t-- ...um.
[Have a weak laugh.]
Since you seem to think my asking was a bad idea, do you have any better suggestions, ma'am?

...your first real winter ever? Or just here?

Well, both I guess. I've seen snow before, but normally I live in the desert. Winter there is completely different than it is here or in most other parts of the world.

So what did you do during the "winter" months in the desert?
