Hey! It's been pretty hot out this week. [Ginji says this and yet, judging from his cheerful tone, the heat doesn't seem to be bothering him much at all.] If anyone likes ice cream, I've finally got her up and running. I expect there's plenty to go around, though, I should probably warn you it's nothing fancy.

[Of course, that doesn't mean you can't bring your own toppings and turn this homemade dairy product into some fancy shmancy dessert!]

Either way, I promise it's cold.

[So why is he doing this? Because he wants to, and because it's fun. Building things is always fun, especially now that he's got a little more leisure time. Just don't ask about his next project...that one'll be a doozy.]

[Should you choose to hunt this guy out, you'll find him not far from the smithy, seated on a stool beside a sizeable wood and metal contraption. Meet Chione (Version 1.02)! Isn't she a looker? Well, she might be if you're into watching cranks turn and gears mesh. The machine even makes a nice, conversational clicking sound as the components rotate and pass over one another. It took a lot of ~~junk~~ parts. And of course, as advertised, there's ice cream. Cool, huh?]

[The time-keeping especially continued to be a cause of confusion for her, in some ways it didn't feel like it has been a long time, yet other instances it felt like time was flying past them.]

... Could I try some of the chocolate, if you don't mind? [SWEETS.]

Of course I don't mind. [He's the one offering free ice cream after all. What's he supposed to do with it all? Besides, chocolate's obviously the best choice!]

Want me to drop it off by the house?

No, I can pass by so it will be less trouble for you. [And by the time he arrives at House One it will have melted significantly, would it not? That simply couldn't be allowed to happen.]

It isn't any trouble. But you're welcome to swing by if you want.

[There's a beat.] Come to think of it, there was actually something I wanted to ask you about.

Then I will be there. [Though the pause and its following inquiry were unexpected.]

You would rather speak about this in person?

Actually, that might be best since you'll be coming for the ice cream anyway. It's a bit personal, and I'm not too sure how secure the journals really are.

[Even with locks and filters.]

[Personal? For all that she respected and didn't mind Ginji's company, she had to wonder just what it was he wanted to talk about that it would have to be off the journals.]

Very well, I will be there as soon as a I can be.

[It seemed a little rude to ask in the first place, but Ginji's been curious about this for the past little while. He figures with Tear, at least, he'll get a straight and honest answer. And of course, he doesn't want to risk a voice conversation being listened in on. He may not be the greatest at keeping his mouth shut, but he doesn't exactly want anyone's secrets spread around either.]

Okay, I'll still be here. We're set up not too far from the smithy.

I'll be there as soon as I can. [And true to her word, Tear makes it to the smithy in less time than it would normally take, She didn't want to hold him up any more than necessary after all.]

[Well, she's already here, so there's not too much point in worrying about picking an inconvenient time. He lifts a hand in greeting]

Oh, hey, Tear. I've got your ice cream all ready to go, too. [He gestures behind him.] It's in a double container, so it should stay cold during your walk back.

Thank you for preparing it for me. [Though that meant it would stay cold while they talked, wouldn't it? She didn't mind lingering for whatever length of time he wished to speak with her.]

If I may ask now that I am here, what is it you wanted to discuss?

[Ginji thinks to have a glance around first, to make sure no one (particularly a certain someone or someones) is close enough to overhear.]

[Ginji rubs the back of his neck in what's possibly a nervous gesture and bobs his head.]

Actually, I was hoping to ask you about General Van. He's living with us now, and I really don't know all that much about him...

[While she knew Ginji had gone on to live with Asch ever since he came back after the incident with Guy, it hadn't occurred to her that Van would come to live with them so soon. It was a foolish to have not though to consider that, and while her eyes did widen at the thought of Ginji being so close to her brother, she does manage to keep her composure.]

... What do you wish to know? [It was her belief that he deserved some answers, with all he had gone through for everyone's sake.]

Well, it's just that I don't think I have a fair idea of the sort of person he is. What with everything that was going on and knowing you were all trying to stop him from doing something horrible...

[Ginji gestures vaguely with one arm.]

He's not like I expected. Mr. Asch acts differently around him, too.

[And of course he can't talk to Asch about it. In the same house as Van. Maybe not at all. Asch has been kind of touchy lately anyhow.] And I thought, since you're his sister, you might know him best.

... In his mind, what he is doing is what is best for Auldrant, for everyone. His intentions may be good, but... [It's difficult to not remember those times when he would speak of eliminating the Score, the madness he was overcome by to the point she didn't recognize him as her brother.]

I thought I knew him well, but even as I was growing up and knew nothing of his plans, I questioned the way he would become when he spoke of the Score. But even with all that, Van was still kind to me, raising and protecting me because in many ways, we had only each other.
